Having clean workplaces is in some ways more important than a clean home when it comes to the spread of germs. Work places tend to have more shared spaces, a concentrated number of people all coming from different homes and potentially high traffic with visitors coming and going on a regular basis.
The COVID pandemic has and will undoubtedly continue to change the way we clean and sanitize from here forward. We are no longer simply cleaning the dirt and dust that we can see on the surface but we have become more mindful of eliminating any unseen germs that could get us sick. Although the risk of catching COVID by touching surfaces is said to be low, our awareness of germ spread in general has certainly been heightened and who wants to get sick, even if it’s just the common cold or flu?
Keep in mind there is a difference between cleaning, disinfecting and sanitizing. Cleaning removes dirt, sanitizing kills bacteria- but is not intended to kill viruses- and disinfecting kills viruses and bacteria.
You don’t necessarily have to clean better or harder but it is important that you are using the correct product. To be more specific, disinfectants are chemical agents applied to non-living objects in order to destroy bacteria, viruses, fungi, mold or mildews living on the objects and disinfectant formulas must be registered with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The “active ingredient” in each disinfectant formula is what kills pathogens, usually by disrupting or damaging their cells. Active ingredients are usually aided by other ingredients with various purposes.
List N disinfectants are expected to kill all strains and variants of the coronavirus SARS CoV-2 when used according to the label instructions. Be sure to clean high touch surfaces such as doorknobs, counters, faucets, light switches and phones especially well.
Almost every environment on the planet contains bacteria and most are harmless to humans however disease-causing organisms, or pathogens, can be dangerous or even deadly. Help to keep your employees and their families safe by choosing the right disinfectants for your business!
